Law firm, Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has advised Viking Ocean Cruises on the delivery of the cruise ship ‘Viking Vela’ from Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard in Italy.
‘Viking Vela’ is the 11th ship delivered to Viking by Fincantieri Group and was built according to the latest navigation and safety regulations. She is also equipped with high-efficiency engines and systems that minimise exhaust gases pollution meeting the strictest environmental requirements.
Viking is working on a project for a partial hybrid propulsion system for future deepsea cruise ships based on liquid hydrogen and fuel cells, which could allow the company to operate at zero-emission in the Norwegian fjords and other sensitive environments.
‘Viking Vela’ was designed to ensure she can be retrofitted to incorporate this new technology as and when it becomes available.
With a gt of about 54,300, 499 staterooms and a capacity of 998 guests, ‘Viking Vela’ is classed as a small cruise ship.
