The French port of St Malo is to get a major upgrade after €150 mill plan to redevelop the ferry terminal was given the go ahead.
Brittany officials said modernising the area is crucial, as the current site reaches the end of its working life in terms of capacity, comfort and ageing equipment.
This new development will provide space for up to 750,000 passengers per annum, as frequent Condor and Brittany Ferry sailings bring visitors from Jersey, Guernsey, Portsmouth and Poole.
The substantial work includes widening and deepening part of the harbour so it is less dependent on tides, reconstructing the area to enable it to welcome larger ships up to 130 m in length and developing a new terminal building.
For foot passengers, better pedestrian and cycle links between the port and the nearby Intra-Muros old town will be built.
