Italian class society RINA has been awarded a contract for the design approval and construction supervision of the fourth and fifth ‘Excel’ class cruise ships for Carnival Cruise Line (CCL).

They have been ordered from Meyer Werft shipyard at Papenburg with delivery set for 2027 and 2028, respectively.

The ships will be built to the same design as their sisterships, with the 180,000 gt ship powered by LNG and designed to carry over 6,400 guests and 1,800 crew.

RINA said that it will leverage on the highly specialised competence and knowledge gained through the supervision of all LNG-powered cruise ships construction of Carnival’s ‘Excel’ class.

The longstanding partnership with Meyer Werft and Carnival was celebrated at Seatrade Cruise Global with a ceremony with representatives from all parties attending.
