RCI cruise ship aided Miami condo collapse rescue efforts

Royal Caribbean (RCI) has helped with the rescue efforts following the recent collapse of the Miami Surfside, condominium.

At the time of RCI’s involvement, there were at least 18 people dead and a further 145 missing.

The building has since been completely demolished due to an incoming storm.

RCI President and CEO Michael Bayley explained that ‘Explorer of the Seas’ had arrived in PortMiami to offer accommodation and assistance to the first responders that helped to find survivors.

Some 80 first responders took up RCI’s offer, and up to 600 more were due to stay on ‘Explorer of the Seas’ for a couple of weeks, including rescue dogs.

Bayley explained that the opportunity came about through working with with different government agencies, including the CDC, US Coast Guard USCG), US Customs and Border Protection, Miami-Dade County Port Authority and PortMiami.
