Fjord Line, which operates ropaxes between Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, has announced further cutbacks.
Last week the company said that another 140 staff will be laid off adding to the 300 laid off last August.
As part of the reductions, Fjord Line also announced that Rickard Ternblom had agreed to resign as CEO. He had led the company since 2015.
Fjord Line blamed the layoffs on a dramatic decline in passenger travel, due to travel restrictions. The situation had worsened in recent weeks necessitating the additional steps to reduce costs and reposition the operations to ensure that the company could emerge from the current crisis.
At least one ropax is being laid up and other services reduced for the Winter Season.
Compatriot Color Line is also laying up one of its two large cruise ferries operating on the Oslo/Kiel link, thus reducing the operation to a one ship service.
