Grandi Navi Veloci’s (GNV) large ropax ‘La Superba’ has arrived in Turkey for recycling.
She was badly damaged by a fire while berthed at Palermo, Sicily, on 14th January, 2023 and was declared a constructive total loss (CTL).
As a result of the CTL, the company’s insurance provider, Siat initially owned the vessel.
According to local reports, GNV aimed to have ‘La Superba’ back in service by the summer of 2023, but the ship had suffered significant fire damage to her forward section, including two garage decks, some cabins, and a public area.
‘La Superba’ was built by Italian shipyard, Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in 2002. At the time, she was largest passenger ferry in the Mediterranean and one of the largest worldwide, able to accommodate 2,920 pax in 567 cabins and 940 seats, plus 1,000 cars in four garages, and had a total cargo capacity of 2,800 lane metres.
