TUI Cruises is to fit two cruise ships with shorepower connections in 2020.

The ’Mein Schiff 4’ and ‘Mein Schiff 5’ already have plug connections, but they will receive the on board equipment next year, the company said.

TUI also said that while few ports in Europe offer shorepower, by adding this technology to its cruise ships, this will help encourage more ports to invest in shoreside power connections.

While the two vessels already have the footprint for the plug, they will receive the final onboard equipment in 2020, the company said, in a prepared statement.
