On November 13th a galley steward died on the Wonder of the Seas, an Oasis-class cruise ship owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. A source said the crew member “apparently died of suicide and left a note before his death along with a video on social media.”
The crew member was allegedly refused permission to return home due to personal issues.
Royal Caribbean said in a statement to Newsweek, reported by Khaleda Rahman, “Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with their family and friends. We are providing assistance and support to the crew on board at this time. Out of respect, we will not provide any further details.”
Newsweek reported that Jim Walker, owner of Cruise Law News has identified that at least 25 employees went overboard in the last 13 years, and ‘that most of the crew members “disappeared mysteriously and appeared to have ended their lives intentionally.”.
