Cash strapped Brodosplit shipyard, part of the Croatian DIV Group,  has officially signed the contract to build an LNG powered residence style cruise ship with Miami-based Storylines.

The estimated cost of the 547 apartment vessel is $1.5 bill.

According to Storylines, the contract with Brodosplit has been signed for the 232.5 m long and she is due for delivery in 2025.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with such a respected European shipyard that has a long history of building high-quality passenger ships,” Storylines CEO, Alister Punton said in a statement.

Brodosplit’s Tomislav Debeljak, added: “We always enter into projects that bring about the development of the industry and the inclusion of new technologies. This ship is energy efficient, with two types of propulsion (diesel and liquefied gas) and will be optimised for the lowest possible emission of greenhouse gases.”

Local media said that the Croatian Government will need to fund the shipyard before construction can start.
