Similar to some other ferry other operators, Stena Line is to switch its large ropax ‘Stena Estrid’ from Holyhead to a new weekend service connecting Dublin and Cherbourg.
Stena reported a drop of more than 60% in freight on routes between Wales and Ireland, compared with similar periods in previous years.
This follows a surge in demand for direct services between Ireland and the rest of the EU mainly via France and also stockpiling prior to end of the Brexit transition period on 31st December.
Additional red tape on trading is impacting UK and Irish retailers, hauliers and ports, while Covid travel restrictions have hit passenger figures.
As a result, Stena has cancelled some weekend sailings between Holyhead and Dublin.
‘Stena Adventurer’ will continue to operate on the Holyhead route at weekends.
