Cruise ship builder, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, has ordered a new gantry crane.

With a total lifting capacity of 1,050 tonnes,it will replace the current 750-tonne gantry crane that has been in operation since 1968 and is becoming obsolete.

Being almost 10 m higher than the current gantry crane, the new crane will allow the installation of all the superstructure elements of large cruise ships. These operations were usually carried out using leased cranes.

The new gantry will complement the 1,400 tonne very large gantry, which will be used for the installation of mega blocks.

Representing a total investment of around €35 mill euros, the new gantry crane is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2022, following the dismantling of the old gantry crane between August and October, 2021.
