Italian engineering company Somec has won contracts worth a total of €110 mill for its Horizons division which specialises in engineered systems for naval architectures and civil façades and Talenta systems and products for professional kitchens.
The first contract was with Fincantieri and concerns three ‘ACE’ class ships for Carnival Cruise Line (one optional), each capable of accommodating up to 8,000 pax.
Somec will supply the entire prefabricated balcony module system and high-performance sliding doors for all of the cabins on board the ships, which will be delivered between 2027 and 2028.
The second contract was signed with Chantiers de l’Atlantique for an ‘Oasis’ class ship for Royal Caribbean Group.
Somec will provide the full ‘Ocean View balcony’ package, including glass walls, windscreens, and railings for public areas and two suites. Her delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2028.
In Portugal, at the West Sea shipyard, Oxin will deliver a turnkey solution for a new cruise ship building for Japanese company, Ryobi Holdings.
Somec’s involvement will involve the construction and complete outfitting of laundry and catering areas.
At the same time, Somec will handle the installation of all of the high-performance sliding doors, continuous glass walls in public areas, and the Skydome.
Delivery is planned for the first half of 2028.
Oxin will also be involved in building six ships (four optional) for Viking, at Fincantieri, providing kitchens, catering areas, and bars as part of a comprehensive turnkey package that includes all project phases.
Vessel deliveries will take place between 2030 and 2033.
