Royal Caribbean Cruises and Ctrip’s SkySea Cruise Line joint venture is to end its Chinese operation later this year.

The line has carried more than 200,000 Chinese passengers since its launch in 2015. The joint venture was formed in 2014 and was led by CEO Ken Muskat.

As mentioned in the TUI expansion story (see “‘Mein Schiff 2’ to remain with TUI Cruises” news story) Marella Cruises is to purchase ‘SkySea Golden Era’. Delivery to Marella Cruises is expected in December, 2018.

Royal Caribbean will continue to serve the Chinese market under its own brand, claiming the largest fleet deployment in the region, while retaining a strong relationship with Ctrip, the company said.
