Swiss shipping company Scylla is expanding its business with the purchase of the expedition ship ‘Bremen’ from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

Scylla has been involved in river cruises since 1973. In 2018, the family-owned company founded VIVA Cruises, a river tour operator.

In total, Scylla currently owns 31 river cruise ships, each accommodating up to 220 guests.
Arno Reitsma, Scylla CEO, said: “We would like to use our decades of experience in the river area on a high-sea ship with a comparable number of guests. The ‘Bremen’ is perfect for that.
“Our nautical and technical expertise, supported by the nautical management of RsR NEMO, also comes into play here. Thanks to this new evolution we can provide our existing customers with new Scylla quality and expand our customer base. The ship transfer will take place in May, 2021,” he said.

“Although the Bremen is a very special ship in our fleet and has been very close to our hearts for more than 25 years, we want to focus on three modern expedition ships with the latest environmental technology in the expedition arena,” said Karl Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
