Lifesaving appliance (LSA) manufacturer, Palfinger Marine has won a major contract from the Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard to provide LSAs for Royal Caribbean International’s fourth ‘Icon’ class cruise ship, due to be delivered in 2027.
Having delivered LSAs for Royal Caribbean’s ’Icon of the Seas’, as well as the soon to be delivered ’Star of the Seas’ and as yet unnamed third ‘Icon’ class ship, Palfinger has now been selected by Meyer Turku to outfit the fourth vessel in the series.
She will be equipped with a comprehensive package of LSAs, including 18 lifeboats, which are one of the largest totally enclosed lifeboats on the market, each with a capacity for 450 people, operated by 18 hydraulic pivoting davits.
In addition, Palfinger will supply two fast rescue boat A-frame davits for rapid response in emergencies, as well as the two fast rescue boats.

The davits will be delivered between 2025 and 2026, followed by the boats in 2026 and 2027.
