Danish company, OSK Design was instrumental in Molslinjen’s giant electric powered catamarans ordered for the Kattegat route.
This project, which includes the construction of two battery-powered mega catamarans at Tasmanian shipyard Incat, sets new standards for green ferry operations, it was claimed.
As design partner, OSK Design delivered the concept and basic design that makes electric operations possible on one of the world’s busiest fast ferry routes.

At 129 m in length and with capacity for 1,483 passengers and 500 cars, the new catamarans will be the world’s largest fully electric ferries.
Each vessel will be equipped with battery systems totalling 45,000 kWh and capable of sailing at over 40 knots – without emitting CO₂.
The contract to build the vessels was recently signed between Molslinjen and Incat, which had previously delivered fast ferries to the Danish operator.
OSK Design worked in close co-operation with Molslinjen to ensure innovative, safe, and sustainable ferry solutions, it said.
