On 15th December, Greek ferry company, Attica Group signed a Memorandum of Co-operation (MOC) with Greek ship repairer ONEX Group worth €1 bill.
This MoC is aimed at the green transition of Attica Group’s ferry fleet utilising ONEX’s subsidiary companies, the Elefsina and Syros island shipyards, over a period of 10 years.
It was signed by ONEX Group’s CEO, Panos Xenokostas and Attica Group’s CEO, Kyriakos Mageiras at the Greek Development Ministry.
The MoC includes:
*The maintenance and all repair work of Attica Group’s fleet of 45 ships, as well as any ships acquired or under its management during the co-operation period.
*The upgrade and energy conversions of Attica Group’s fleet in view of the ships’ green transition, and the improvement of their environmental footprint in accordance with the new environmental requirements of European and international legislation.
*The potential building of new ships at ONEX Group’s facilities, should Attica Group decide to do so.
Welcoming the MoC, Greek Development Minister, Kostas Skrekas said that this is expected to not only revive Greek shipyards but also the county’s entire shipping fleet.
Greek Shipping & Island Minister, Christos Stylianides, Deputy National Economy & Finance Minister, Nikos Papathanassis, Labour & Social Affairs Minister, Adonis Georgiadis and the US Ambassador to Greece, George Tsunis, all attended the signing.
