On 19th May, 2024, the polar expedition cruise ship ’Ocean Victory’ was detained at Malaga, Spain.
According to local reports, the ‘Infinity’ type cruise ship, which was on charter to start-up company, Alma Cruceros, was arrested by the Spanish authorities, allegedly at the request of the ship’s agent, Lantimar Group.
The vessel was at anchor at Gibraltar’s Eastern Anchorage on 29th May, according to MarineTraffic.
The original owner, SunStone only had a non-controlling, minority interest in the vessel and no longer managed her, the company reportedly said.
According to SunStone, talking with Seatrade, Nordic Marine Partner, Denmark was the vessel’s commercial manager, and Anglo-Eastern was the technical manager.
Alma Cruceros claimed it would issue a statement in a few days.
Denmark’s Albatros Expeditions normally operated ’Ocean Victory’ in Antarctica during the Southern Hemisphere summer season, while Alma Cruceros was due to utilise the vessel in the Mediterranean area from April to October, according to its website.
Alma Cruceros was set up in April this year as a boutique cruise ship operator, but started to cancel cruises at the beginning of May.
