German custom ferry design and consultancy, naValue has released details of its latest design – the ‘Innovator’ class ropax.

According to Partner, Heiko Krueger, the design came about as a result of a ropax concept study for a European ferry operator.

It was designed to provide investment security, high value retention and maximum technical flexibility within the framework of IMO GHG targets, EU Green Deal and revised taxonomy criteria, he said.

‘Innovator’ has been designed for flexibility and can carry up to 750 pax in 225 cabins, plus 3,800 lane m of rolling space for 60 cars.

The design has been developed to be powered by large dual-fuel engines utilising MGO, LNG, e-methanol or ammonia at a speed of 23 kn on a design draft of 6.3 m.

The propulsion system can be supplemented by large battery packs, plus shore power connections, will be built to IMO Tier III level, EEDI 2030, SOLAS 2020 and will be compliant with the EU’s green regulations.
