The Rs556 crores Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) became operational on 21st April.
By opening the terminal, India has taken a huge leap towards the expansion of cruise tourism and maritime infrastructure, it was claimed.
It is the largest cruise terminal in the country and was inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal, India’s Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways,
MICT will have an annual capacity for 1 mill passengers or around 10,000 passengers per day.
The terminal can accommodate five ships simultaneously for passenger operations. It can handle vessels of up to 11 m and up to 300 m in length.
This investment is part of the Indian Government’s Sagarmala Programme, which involves port-led development and the improvement of maritime logistics.
Mumbai has also invested in ship-to-shore power connections.
