Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia has appointed Carnival Australia President, Sture Myrmell (pictured) as the association’s new chair.

At the recent Sydney AGM, Myrmell replaced Steve Odell who has held the position since 2016.
“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve as the chair of CLIA Australasia during an exciting couple of years for the local cruise industry. I wish Sture every success as he takes the reins and continues CLIA Australasia’s great work in advocating on behalf of the industry and promoting awareness of cruising holidays in Australia and New Zealand,” Odell said.

With more than 20 years’ experience across four Carnival brands, beginning with on board roles at Cunard and culminating in the recent transformation of P&O Cruises into a modern Australian brand, Sture has an in-depth knowledge of many facets of the cruise industry.

Myrmell, who has been in Australia for the past 11 years, became President of P&O Cruises Australia in 2016, and was also named President of Carnival Australia in late 2017.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Association’s executive committee to continue its great work in raising the profile of cruising in the region and ensuring cruising remains the standout success story of the local tourism industry,” Myrmell said.

CLIA Australasia & Asia Managing Director, Joel Katz, said;“Steve has been a great advocate for CLIA and the cruise industry during a time of rapid growth and we thank him for his tireless efforts during his tenure. We look forward to having Sture at the helm as we continue to lay the foundations for sustained growth into the future.”
