Global Ports Holding (GPH) has appointed John Mawer as the new General Manager for Liverpool Cruise Port, which the port operations company recently acquired from Peel Ports.

Previously the head of cruise and operations at Cruise Liverpool, Mawer will oversee the development and operations at Liverpool Cruise Port, reporting directly to GPH COO, Stephen Xuereb.

“We are delighted to welcome John Mawer to the Global Ports Holding family,” Xuereb said.

“John’s extensive experience and proven leadership in the maritime sector make him an invaluable addition to our team.

“We are confident that his deep knowledge of the sector in the region will contribute significantly towards further establishing Liverpool as a thriving cruise destination,” he said.

Mawer, who has over two decades of maritime and port management experience, currently serves as the chair for Cruise Europe’s UK & Ireland regions and is a director for the Liverpool and Manchester Port Security Authority.

His career began with the Isle of Man Steam Packet, where he held several senior leadership positions, including port operations, training manager and company security officer.

In 2017, he moved to the cruise sector, serving as cruise manager at Liverpool Cruise Terminal.

“I look forward to the continued success of Liverpool Cruise Port and am very excited to be a part of the Global Ports Holding team,” Mawer said.

“This port has immense potential, and I look forward to working to enhance its operations and deliver exceptional experiences for our passengers and partners through collaboration with all of our Liverpool stakeholders.”
