On 11th January, MSC Cruises announced a milestone in its ongoing US expansion programme with the opening of a new home port at Galveston.
The Texan port will be the base for ’MSC Seascape’ from 9th November, 2025 and will mark MSC Cruises’ fourth US home port.
MSC is offering year-round sailings from Galveston with seven-night itineraries departing on Sundays to Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico and Isla de Roatan in Honduras.
Gianni Onorato, MSC Cruises CEO (pictured), said, “This announcement is the latest step in our strategy to continue to grow our US footprint. Earlier this year we began operations from our third US home port, New York City, where we now sail year-round, and we are proud to add Galveston to that growing line-up alongside PortMiami and Port Canaveral.
“We are committed to bringing our newest, largest, most innovative ships to the US and are pleased that ‘MSC Seascape’ will be more easily accessible to guests in central and western parts of the US through Galveston, as well as to our guests internationally via the well-connected international airport hub of Houston,” he said.
MSC Seascape was officially named in December 2022 in Manhattan, New York City. The ship features 2,270 cabins with 12 different types of cabins and suites;11 dining venues and 19 bars and lounges; six swimming pools, including an aft infinity pool; an expansive waterfront promenade, 7,500 square feet of dedicated facilities for children and amusement options, plus a state-of-the-art ROBOTRON robotic arm ride.
