Polar Latitudes and Albatros Expeditions are to merge before the 2026 Arctic season.

This was claimed to be the first significant consolidation within the expedition cruise sector.

This merger has laid the groundwork for the first redefinition of polar cruise exploration, as it integrates the decades of innovative cruise design of both brands to offer customers improved, sustainable options, the companies said.

It is aimed at fully balancing the brands across both the Arctic and Antarctic.

The merger will also provide an opportunity to grow a new brand – Polar Latitudes Expeditions.

Announced in a social media post, the companies said that their newly combined fleets would focus on eco-friendly operations.

A key element is the aim of operating the most fuel-efficient fleet in the Polar regions.

Polar Latitudes’ ‘Seaventure’, which operates in Antarctica, and Albatros Expeditions’ ’Ocean Victory’ and ‘Ocean Albatros’, will be join a new fleet.

During the merger, Albatros Expeditions CEO, Patrick Shaw, who has considerable experience in the cruise sector, was appointed CEO of the newly created Polar Latitudes Expeditions.

He was previously CEO and President of Quark Expeditions.

Shaw said the merged company would possess stronger, more efficient, and better expert-managed vessels. He also highlighted the value of staff training, interacting, and understanding Polar-region local communities.

This new approach will pursue sustainability through guest education and transformative experiences, focusing on the safeguarding of Polar residents with pride in their culture and the Polar ecosystems they live in, he said.
