China’s first Polar expedition cruise line was launched in Guangdong earlier this month.
66 Degrees Expeditions was founded by Chinese companies – Guangdong Travel Holding Group and Guangdong Port and Shipping Group.
This new initiative will begin operations in May, 2025, offering Polar expedition cruises, with initial itineraries focused on the Arctic, utilising the 1990-built, 168 pax ‘Seaventure’.
She was originally Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ ‘Bremen’ and was sold to Swiss-based Scylla in 2019 before being acquired by its current Chinese owners earlier this year.
In addition to the ‘Seaventure’, 66 Degrees Expeditions said it planned to introduce newbuildings to expand its operations, offering both Arctic and Antarctic expeditions.
She will be crewed by Chinese and English-speaking staff to accommodate a diverse passenger base.
