The cruise ship ‘Celestyal Discovery’ has become the first vessel in Greece to receive a delivery of biofuel marine fuels.
The bunkering was undertaken by the Motor Oil Group utilising its subsidiary, Coral Marine with the delivery taking place at the Port of Lavrio.
This locally produced oil-biofuel blend is estimated to reduce CO₂ emissions by 21%, meeting ISO 8217:2024 standards and marks a step towards greener operations, Celestyal Cruises claimed.
Capt George Koumpenas, Celestyal’s COO, said: “This initiative marks a meaningful shift toward sustainable cruising. We are proud that the ‘Celestyal Discovery’ is taking the lead in the efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of the cruise sector in our country.”
Celestyal said that it was committed to taking real, measurable steps towards a more sustainable future. This milestone reflects not just technological progress, but also the power of local partnerships in driving positive change, the cruise operator said.
