Cape Verde’s Sao Vicente Island’s Mindelo cruise terminal is in its final stages of construction.
Located at Porto Grande, Cape Verde’s largest port, it has maintained its tradition of serving international shipping and is increasingly establishing itself as an important port of call for cruise ships in the mid-Atlantic, according to a report from MedCruise.
Expected to be completed later this year, the terminal has a 400 m long berth with a depth of up to 11 m, which can accommodate two ships at the same time.
In addition, there will be a 900 sq m welcome building for processing visitors, as well as a dedicated area for administrative services.
The Mindelo cruise terminal is claimed to be an innovative, modern, technically advanced and financially sustainable project with onshore power supply technology, which will help to de carbonise port operations.
It is being co-financed by the Dutch ORIO fund and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
