The Spanish Port of Barcelona has awarded a contract for the construction of a third ropax ferry terminal.

The €54.7 mill contract was awarded to construction companies, SATO and Rubau.

To be located at Adossat Quay, this marked the final phase of the development of Barcelona’s cruise and ferry facility. In 2018, the port had agreed to relocate ferries away from the city centre.

The new ropax terminal will have three berths with water depths of 12 m and 8.5 m and will offer onshore power supply (OPS) to berthed ferries.

Construction is expected to take 51 months. When becoming operational in late 2029, Barcelona will consolidate all ferry operations at Adossat Quay.

Ropax ferry operators currently serving Barcelona include Baleària, GNV, Grimaldi, and Trasmed GLE.

Recently, the port authority awarded a contract to build and commission its first OPS system for cruise ships to Powercon.

This OPS will be installed at the port’s new Terminal H on Adossat Quay, which has been operated by MSC Cruises since early 2025.
