Balearia announced last month that it had completed the LNG bunkering of three ropaxes in Barcelona on the same day – a Spanish record.
This operation required the co-ordination of eight LNG bunker tankers (LNGBVs) to refuel the fast ferry, ‘Margarita Salas’, plus the ropaxes ‘Martin I Soler’ and ‘Bahama Mama’, which together received 2,320 MWh of LNG.
Three LNGBVs refueled the ’Margarita Salas’ simultaneously, while two others bunkered the ’Martin I Soler’ and three tankers handled the refueling of the ’Bahama Mama’.
Balearia claimed that this was the first time that three LNG bunkering operations were carried out in Spain on the same day and in the same port.
The company also revealed an 184% growth in LNG usage during 2024.
This initiative has led to a 10% reduction in carbon emissions per passenger, reflecting Balearia’s expanding focus on greener operations, the company said.
