ALMACO Group has supplied and installed the provision stores and undertook the engineering, procurement, project management, and commissioning of the refrigeration machinery system on board NYK’s new cruise ship ‘Asuka III’.
She was delivered this month from MEYER WERFT’s Papenburg shipyard and is due to start cruising in and around Japan in July.
In September, 2022, ALMACO signed an agreement with MEYER WEFT to provide the ‘Asuka III’ with its provision cooling plant.
ALMACO designed and installed the provision stores tailored to meet the vessel’s specific needs.
Simultaneously, the team engineered a complete refrigeration machinery system, comprising cooling units, air coolers, and a control system.
ALMACO managed the procurement process, oversaw project management, and ensured the commissioning of the entire plant.
One of the technical challenges was the design and building of a cold room capable of reaching and maintaining a temperature of minus 43 deg C.
Despite the complexity, the team successfully overcame this challenge, the company said. The provision stores were designed to optimise storage space and maintain the freshness of perishable goods, while the refrigeration machinery system was built to provide reliable and efficient cooling.
Samuel Teyssier, ALMACO’s Project Manager responsible for the refrigeration machinery work, commented: “We are proud of the outcome and the quality of this project, and we would like to like to thank all parties involved for the great teamwork.”
