Italian-based engineering concern Pneumofore is supplying its rotary vane gas compressors to the latest generation of LNG-powered cruise ships – Princess Cruises’ ‘Sphere’ class.
They are being delivered from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.
These vessels are powered by LNG and represent a major step forward not only in luxury cruising but also in reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing sustainability in the marine industry, the company claimed.
The first ‘Sphere’ class vessel entered service in 2024. She is the largest ship built for Princess Cruises and the company’s first ship to use LNG propulsion. The second vessel is scheduled for delivery this year.
Pneumofore supplied eight rotary vane gas compressors, model K60, specifically designed to feed the Wartsila LNG engines.
These high-performance gas compressors ensure energy efficiency and reliable, trouble-free operation, in line with the demanding standards in marine gas propulsion technology, the company said.
